"If I bought you a drink, we wouldn't be strangers."

There’s nothing like a near death car accident to open your eyes. Otto Proulx decides surviving was a sign; he’s being given a second chance to claim the life he wants to live. For the past few years he’s been hiding in the shadows, vague texts from a troubled ex-partner keep him at home along with his general lack of luck in the romance department. This is his last chance, he’s certain, this time he’ll meet the man for him, the one he’s sure is out there somewhere.

Greg Trainor runs a specialty kite shop and helps his friends out when they ask. That’s the kind of guy he is, if somebody needs something, they call on Greg. He’s a big guy and no genius, but he’s dependable. So…yeah, when he sees a car precariously perched on the side of the road, he stops to help out; it’s what he does.

One night of passion leads to…several more and suddenly both men are searching around to define what they have together. Neither wants to scare the other off and neither wants to ask for more. Will the two men be able to set aside their fears and create a family together, trusting the elements are in their favor?

There is a lot to unpack here.

Trusting The Elements by Elle Keaton was a whirlwind of entertainment.

Beware of spoilers. Or, just this next line since I try to avoid spoilers.

This needs to be said though.

My favorite part out of the whole book was when creepy, stalker Michael got tased. It was honestly life. I cheered. The fact he dropped like a brick was pure joy for me. I only wish he'd screamed a little, done the whole shaking thing. But only because I am cruel and wanted him to suffer just a little more than he did.

But, on to the review.

Otto is a sweetheart of a man. He was bright and bubbly and so hopelessly romantic. Though, he was just a bit jaded by the past and his own mistakes, he still believed in love—for other people in any case. And Greg broke my heart several times with the way he viewed himself because of his learning disorder and how he had been treated by his family. It tore at my heart that he was so self deprecating.

A+ for the representation of dyslexia in Trusting The Elements, by the way. It wasn't a huge issue in the book because it was handled well by Elle Keaton. Greg had a problem. It wasn't addressed by his family the way it should have been but he managed to live and prosper despite that as many people with dyslexia do.

As for Otto and Greg as a couple, I really enjoyed watching them dance around one another. They had instant attraction. Their chemistry was really off the charts. Because of their own issues they were slow to come together but the prolonged build is really what made Trusting The Elements a page turner.

It suited Otto to be almost in love after the first weekend together but to hold back out of fear.

It made sense that Greg wanted more but didn't know how to ask for it.

The outside elements, like Michael—the stalker, and Greg's issues with his family only added to their relationship and made you wonder was it going to push them further apart or bring them together.

I really enjoyed most of the secondary characters too.

I am hopefully that Blaise and Jack get their own book.

The only real complaint I have is the editing. It was horrible.

The bad edit did not take away from the story line.

Grammar issues were non-existent for the most part. It was the sentence structure that was distracting. But, if you're looking for a sweet story line with two engaging characters to entertain you for a few hours, and can handle run on sentences, I recommend Trusting The Elements by Elle Keaton.

Thanks for stopping by, I’m Elle Keaton and I hail from the northwest corner of the US where we are known for rain, rain and more rain. I write the Accidental Roots series, set here in the Pacific Northwest featuring hot mm romance and the guarantee of a happy ending for my men. They start out broken, and maybe they end up that way too, but they always find the other half of their hearts.

I started writing way back when but only began publishing about two and a half years ago and now have nine books out. Each features a couple in my little universe, sometimes there is added mystery and suspense.
