SEPTEMBER 19 | THE SECRETS WE KEEP BY RICK R REED
Jasper Warren is a happy-go-lucky young man in spite of the tragedy that’s marred his life. He’s on a road to nowhere with his roommate, Lacy, whom he adores, and a dead-end retail job in Chicago.
And then everything changes in a single night. Though Jasper doesn’t know it, his road is going somewhere after all. This time when tragedy strikes, it brings with it Lacy’s older, wealthy, sexy uncle Rob. Despite the heart-wrenching circumstances, an immediate connection forms between the two men.
But the secrets between them test their attraction. Will their revelations destroy the bloom of new love... or encourage it to grow?
Seven chapters into The Secrets We Keep by Rick R. Reed I found myself skimming through the story. In those beginning chapters, the story was bogged down by to much detail around Jasper's everyday life, the death of Lacy and his own family's murder when he was a child. I kept reading, hoping the story would focus more on Jasper and Rob's affair. And, I was not disappointed by the time I reached chapter thirteen.
The Secrets We Keep picked up and ended up being a charming tell about two men who had lost the people they loved via tragedy and life's misfortunes.
There were some bumps along the way with Rob and Jasper. First Rob was old enough to be Jasper's father, rich as God and Lacy's father as we came to find out. And Jasper was insecure and still haunted by the death of his family.
In the end, the pair came together nicely after a couple harsh words and sweet apologies.
Overall I enjoyed the story though it was slow to start and didn't have the permanent HEA I often prefer. However, the HFN suited Rob and Jasper's story.
